Project:

Intercropping Thaumatococcus daniellii (Benn.) Benth. with agricultural crops in west and central Africa: an agronomic, botanical and genetic study

Mr. Wojciech Simon Waliszewski

To ascertain the suitability of T.daniellii as an intercrop for resource poor farmers in west and central Africa, niche analyses are to be conducted with local people to understand their knowledge of, and their view of the plant as a potential intercrop.  T. daniellii will be observed in situ across its natural range with environmental factors analysed to determine how these affect growth.  Analysis of thaumatin-protein content from these plants will be conducted to determine if environmental factors affect levels of thaumatin.  Selected varieties of T.daniellii will then be grown in replicated sample plots to determine suitability to agricultural crops.
